2026 CFL Week 5 (pt 1)
Canada Day Weekend kicked off Week 5 in Calgary with an explosion of points, 94 total points scored, TOR 36 CAL 58. CAL QB Vernon Adams had a huge day with six passing touchdowns and one running. Argo QB Chad Kelly tried to keep pace with Adams by throwing three TD's but threw two INT's and Toronto's defense couldn't stop the Stampeders on second down giving up twelve conversions on seventeen attempts, a 71% conversion rate.
The Riders continue to win but not overwhelmingly and we will see if that will change in the future, either in the win column or the loss column. Saskatchewan improved to 3-1 and Toronto fell to 2-2 and if the Argos don't shore up their defensive unit a .500 season may be the best they can do this year.
In Ottawa, the Redblacks were close to achieving their first victory of the season but late in the fourth quarter driving deep into Rider territory they failed to gain one yard on a third down attempt. Thus turning the ball over on downs where SSK proceeded to run out the clock. The Rider offense was helped out with a special team 101 yard punt return for a touchdown, SSK 27 OTT 22.
At this point in the season Ottawa just can't find a way to win games and remain winless with a 0-4 record. Saskatchewan is finding ways to win games and that is the difference between the good teams and the bad teams. But how long can they push their luck? The Riders improve their record to 3-1.
