CFL Wk 7 - MTL 38 - CGY 32
Youtube link to full game here. The first thing you may notice are the empty seats but there is a story behind those seats. The new CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnson is enacting new extreme changes to the CFL and fans are protesting. Starting next year, 2027, the field dimensions are changing from 110 yds long by 65 yds wide & 20 yd end zones to 100 yds long by 65 yds wide and 15 yd end zones. Also moving the goal posts from the goal line to the end line. Part of his reasoning is to increase scoring. People aren't happy with the "Americanization" of a great Canadian game, including this author.
MTL QB Davis Alexander set a CFL record, 324 pass attempts without an interception, breaking Darian Durant's record. Also, he still hasn't lost a game in regulation, so the question is which will happen first? The game also featured twin brothers, MTL WR Tyson Philpot and CGY WR Jalen Philpot. Jalen had just a little better game, 8 targets, 6 rec, 96 yds, 1 TD and a long of 50 yds. Tyson numbers 8-5-88-0 with a long of 40 yds.
The Alouettes jumped out to a 22-0 lead in the second quarter and took a 22-3 lead into halftime. They held a 29-11 lead after three quarters. The third quarter saw each team score a touchdown. But in the fourth quarter Calgary would mount a comeback by scoring twenty-one points and tie the game at 32-32 with 3:03 left to play in the game.
On the ensuing kickoff, MTL would have a miscommunication and started deep in their own zone at the 14 yard line with 2:56 left in the game, giving CGY hope of a huge comeback win. But MTL QB Alexander would lead them down the field for a go ahead TD with 1:04 left in the game. But they would miss the extra point and Calgary still had hope.
CGY QB Vernon Adams would lead the Stamps deep into Al's territory and on 3rd down with less than twenty seconds left Adams would complete a pass but CGY would end up fumbling the ball and Montreal ran out the clock.
MTL QB Alexander had 402 yds passing and 3 TD's. CGY QB Adams 271 yds and 3 TD's. MTL RB Theis 123 rushing yds and 1 TD, CGY Mills 130 rush yds and 1 TD. MTL WR Snead 113 rec yds and 1 TD.
