CFL Football Week 4 (part 1)

Thursday night Edmonton Elks at Winnipeg Blue Bombers, another good game that came down to the last possession. The Blue Bombers spotted the Elks a 17-0 lead but scored late in the second quarter to narrow the lead to 17-7 at halftime.

The second half kickoff by WPG K Sergio Castillo made it to the end zone and Edmonton conceded a rouge. The rest of the third quarter was punting by each team until at the end of the quarter WPG K Castillo connected on a field goal, his third attempt of the game. EDM 17 WPG 11.

Winnipeg took the lead half way through the fourth quarter 18-17 but Edmonton would score a touchdown with fifty-three seconds left in the game but fail on a two point convert to regain the lead 23-18. Winnipeg would have one last drive to win the game but after driving into Elks territory they would come up short.

Winnipeg just had too many mistakes, 3 turnovers and 2 missed field goals to over come. Elks RB Rankin had 106 yards on 15 carries and 1 TD but most of that production came in the first half. The Bombers fall to 1-2 and the Elks remain undefeated at 3-0.

Friday night, Toronto Argonauts at Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Argos would score the first thirteen points of the game but then the Riders would come back to take the lead late in the second quarter 17-13. Toronto would get the ball with twenty-four seconds left before halftime and TOR QB Chad Kelly would connect on a couple big pass plays ending with a 27 yard TD pass to WR Tyler Kahmann and take a 20-17 lead into the locker room.

The Argos would get the second half kickoff and get into Rider territory but a couple of missed deep throws by Kelly would result in a FG and a 23-17 lead. Later in the quarter Chad Kelly would run for a two yard TD and a 30-17 lead. The Riders offense would finally put together a drive and would score a touchdown before the end of the quarter narrowing the Argo lead to 30-24.

In the fourth quarter the Argos would get a field goal and the Riders would put together a drive, highlighted by WR KeeSean Johnson stealing a potential interception away from an Argo player, and resulting in a 17 yard Trevor Harris TD pass to WR Daniel Wiebe. TOR 33 SSK 31. Toronto would punt and the Riders would fumble on first down in their own territory and Chad Kelly would connect on a 21 yard TD pass to Tyler Kahmann again with 4:26 left in the game. TOR 40 SSK 31. The Riders would have to punt on the next possession but would force the Argos to also punt but starting at the Rider 10 yard line with 1:48 in the game. They would drive the field but settle for a FG with 34 seconds remaining. The Riders would try an onside kick but the Argos would recover and then proceed to run out the clock. TOR 40 SSK 34.
