DE Jim Marshall 1937-2025

The Cleveland Browns drafted Marshall in the 4th round of the 1960 NFL Draft. The Browns traded Marshall to the expansion Minnesota Vikings in 1961 and retired after the 1979 season. He was part of the famous "Purple People Eaters" that went to four Super Bowls between 1969 and 1976.
He is best remembered for his wrong way run, unfortunately. On October 25, 1964 at Kezar Stadium against the 49ers, Marshall picked up a fumble, got disoriented and sprinted to the wrong end zone and before his teammate could stop him, he crossed the goal line threw the ball out of play in celebration. This gave the 49ers a safety and not a touchdown Jim was hoping.
I remember watching him and I can not tell you why he is not in the Hall of Fame. He was 87 years old.
